The Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a 20-block area of the city centre that is represented by Uptown Saint John Inc.

BIA levies are placed on all all property owners within the area and are used on behalf of members to support Uptown initiatives such as Waterfront Development and the work of Uptown Saint John's three committees:
Uptown Saint John Inc. works on behalf of its members and partners with the community to ensure future growth and prosperity for the area.

The Trinity Royal Preservation Area was established in 1982 to preserve 20 blocks of commercial and residential buildings in the uptown peninsula. The foresight of this action has gained the City international recognition. In 2002 the City was awarded the Prince of Wales Prize for heritage preservation.

The late 19th and early 20th century architecture that dominates this 20-block area is comprised of an interesting mix of commercial and residential properties that are undergoing renovations to accommodate new uses. The area has seen an above-average rate of property assessment growth over the past fifteen years, a trend which appears to continue and likely accelerate with the influence of demographics and initiatives such as waterfront development.

Public green spaces and tree-lined streets also help to enhance this popular residential and commercial setting.
